50. Aalto HAPS – United Kingdom
Aalto HAPS is a technology company focused on the development of High Altitude Platform Stations (HAPS), specifically uncrewed aircraft designed for persistent operation in the stratosphere.
While not a traditional drone manufacturer in the sense of tactical or battlefield UAVs, Aalto HAPS operates a unique class of very long-endurance, high-altitude drones.
Its primary goal is to provide persistent, low-cost services from the stratosphere, bridging the gap between traditional aircraft and satellites, for applications ranging from telecommunications to Earth observation.
Aalto HAPS was formed as a spin-off from Airbus own HAPS development efforts.

For defense and security applications, Aalto HAPS’ stratospheric platforms, such as the Zephyr, offer a distinct advantage. The Zephyr is an ultra-lightweight, solar-electric uncrewed aircraft capable of remaining airborne for weeks or even months at a time, operating in the stratosphere at altitudes significantly above commercial air traffic.
This persistent presence makes it an ideal platform for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance over vast areas, providing continuous monitoring that is beyond the reach of conventional drones and more cost-effective than satellites for localized persistence.
Its capabilities include carrying various payloads for communications relay, environmental sensing, and wide-area surveillance, offering critical support for military and border security operations without needing frequent launches or recoveries.
