19. Kratos – United States
Kratos Defense & Security Solutions is an American technology company that has become a prominent innovator in the defense sector, particularly known for its focus on affordable, high-performance, and “attritable” unmanned aerial systems.
Leveraging its strong background in aerial target systems, Kratos has transitioned into developing advanced tactical drones designed to operate alongside manned aircraft in contested environments.
Its approach emphasizes cost-effectiveness and rapid development, aiming to provide solutions that can be produced in large quantities and are sophisticated enough for complex missions without the prohibitive costs of traditional combat aircraft.

Kratos’ drone offerings are spearheaded by its family of jet-powered tactical UAVs, including the renowned XQ-58A Valkyrie, a stealthy unmanned combat aerial vehicle capable of long-range flights at high-subsonic speeds, designed for roles like loyal wingman, single UAS operations, or swarm missions.
Other key platforms include the UTAP-22 Mako, a fighter-like unmanned aircraft derived from their target drones, and the X-61A Gremlin, part of a DARPA program focused on airborne launch and recovery of UAS.
Beyond these combat and tactical drones, Kratos is a leading provider of high-performance aerial target drones (such as the BQM-167A and BQM-177A) used for weapon systems testing and warfighter training. Kratos also provides critical subsystems, including advanced autopilots, mission computers, command and control systems, and specialized ground support equipment for their unmanned platforms.
