37. Firestorm Labs – United States
Firestorm Labs, a San Diego-based defense technology company founded in 2022, specializes in the rapid development and deployment of modular, mission-adaptable unmanned aerial systems for military applications.
Firestorm Labs distinguishes itself by leveraging advanced additive manufacturing (3D printing) and open-source architectures, aiming to deliver cost-effective and scalable drone solutions that can be produced and deployed quickly, even in logistically challenging or contested environments.
Its core objective is to enable “Affordable Mass” — the ability to generate a large volume of drones rapidly to meet evolving battlefield needs.

For defense and military use, Firestorm Labs’ primary product is the Tempest 50, a small unmanned aerial system designed for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, tactical support, and potentially loitering munition applications.
The Tempest 50 features a modular and open architecture, allowing for quick adaptation to various mission requirements, including the integration of different sensors, propulsion systems, or even explosives.
Firestorm Labs also emphasizes “expeditionary manufacturing” through its xCell system, a mobile 3D printing unit that can produce drone components directly at or near the point of need.
The company has secured significant contracts with the US Air Force, including a $100 million contract, to develop and procure 3D-printed UAS and next-generation autonomy capabilities, further cementing its role in providing rapidly deployable and adaptable drone solutions for modern warfare.
