Saab and PGZ Target Submarine and Drone Cooperation in New Naval Agreement

Saab and Poland’s Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) have agreed to deepen cooperation on naval platforms, including submarines, surface vessels, and underwater systems.

The agreement covers lifecycle support for naval vessels and outlines plans to integrate PGZ’s naval entities into Saab’s supply chain, alongside joint export opportunities for selected surface and underwater platforms, including rescue vessels.

As part of the collaboration, Saab and PGZ will evaluate the production and marketing of Saab’s Autonomous Ocean Drone and explore potential cooperation on heavyweight torpedo development.

The companies also intend to establish a future Underwater Technology Centre in Poland.

This move builds on earlier cooperation frameworks signed in March, which covered submarine maintenance, repair, and overhaul capabilities linked to Poland’s Orka program.

“This agreement reflects a strong commitment to a deepening partnership between Polish and Swedish industry, while also contributing to enhanced security in the Baltic Sea and NATO’s eastern flank,” Saab President and CEO Micael Johansson said.

PGZ Expands European Defense Partnerships

PGZ Group has increased cooperation with European and US defense partners as Poland accelerates modernization of its naval and industrial defense base.

In March, the company signed an agreement with Estonia’s Frankenburg Technologies to produce Mark I anti-drone missiles in Poland, including plans for a local facility with annual output of up to 10,000 units.

The same month, PGZ and Milrem Robotics agreed to jointly develop defense technologies focused on integrating payloads into unmanned ground vehicles.

Earlier, in October 2025, PGZ also partnered with Rheinmetall to produce military support vehicles for the Polish Armed Forces.
