Poland’s New Miecznik Frigates to Use L3Harris Platform Management System

L3Harris is set to supply the ship management system for Poland’s new Miecznik-class frigates as Warsaw pushes ahead with one of its largest naval modernization programs.

Polish state-owned shipbuilder PGZ Stocznia Wojenna selected the company’s Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) for the three new warships, which are based on the Arrowhead 140 frigate design developed by the UK’s Babcock International.

The system will handle and monitor key onboard functions, helping improve operational efficiency, ship safety, and situational awareness during missions.

L3Harris said its IPMS technology draws from experience working with several NATO navies, including those of the UK, the Netherlands, Australia, and Canada. The company has delivered versions of the system to nearly 300 vessels across 28 navies.

President of Maritime, Space & Mission Systems at L3Harris, Nino DiCosmo, said that the frigates “represent the future of maritime defense,” and that it provides the country “with superior combat power and a strategic edge in regional waters.”

“Our next-generation solution strengthens Poland’s defense industrial capabilities while enabling the fleet to extend operational range and endurance,” he said.

Poland’s Miecznik Program

Construction of the Miecznik-class frigates forms part of Poland’s broader effort to strengthen its Baltic Sea capabilities amid growing regional security concerns. Once operational, the ships are expected to provide anti-air, anti-surface, and anti-submarine warfare capabilities for the Polish Navy.

Warsaw began construction of new frigates in May 2025 at the PGZ naval shipyard in Gdynia. The vessels will also support amphibious operations, humanitarian missions, and maritime transport.

Each frigate measures 138 meters (453 feet) in length, with a range of about 8,000 nautical miles (14,800 kilometers/9,196 miles) and a top speed of 28 knots (52 kilometers/32 miles per hour). It can carry a crew of 120, with space for an additional 60 troops.

Earlier, in March 2025, Rohde & Schwarz selected ELT Group to supply electronic warfare components for the frigates. The contract covers communications and radar electronic support measures systems.
