Saab Deepens Ties With Polish Defense Industry
Saab has signed new cooperation agreements with Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) and WB Group as part of its effort to deepen industrial and technological ties with Poland’s defense sector.
Under the updated pact with PGZ, Saab and Polish state‑owned group intend to collaborate on in‑country submarine maintenance, repair, and overhaul capabilities tied to Poland’s Orka submarine program.
A separate agreement with WB Group focuses on joint work in autonomous naval systems and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) such as the Gladius and Future Task Force platforms.
Saab president and chief executive officer Micael Johansson said that the collaborations “ensure the development of advanced solutions and capabilities that will contribute to security and stability in Europe and the Baltic Sea region.”
These expanded agreements reflect Saab’s broader strategy to integrate with local partners and expand its footprint in Central and Eastern Europe.
Saab’s History With PGZ and WB Group
Saab’s collaboration with PGZ dates back to September 2025, when the two signed a memorandum of understanding at an international defense exhibition in Poland.
The original agreement was aimed at exploring cooperation on defense solutions for multi‑domain operations and evaluating potential joint initiatives in support of Ukraine and European security.
At the same event, Saab also established a strategic cooperation with WB Group designed to promote collaboration across UAV systems, naval solutions, and border protection technologies, with the objective of accelerating innovation and shared defense capabilities between Poland and Sweden.
These earlier agreements laid the groundwork for the latest contracts, which moved from exploratory commitments toward defined industrial cooperation.
