BlackSky Wins Latin American Contract for On-Demand Satellite Monitoring

BlackSky Technology has secured a contract to deliver subscription-based, on-demand monitoring services using its Gen-3 and Gen-2 satellite systems for defense and intelligence agencies in Latin America.

The services aim to support operations against transnational organized crime.

Under the agreement, users can access both real-time and archived satellite imagery, as well as analytics, through the BlackSky Spectra platform, a geospatial intelligence system built for high-frequency, low-latency monitoring.

The contract also enables automated satellite tasking through AI-based tip-and-cue functions and supports integration of third-party commercial satellite data.

These capabilities enable the continuous tracking of activity patterns, including the movement of vehicles, vessels, and aircraft.

“On-Demand subscriptions give our customers fast, flexible access to BlackSky’s global satellite imagery services and is ideal for operations where responsiveness is paramount, with immediate tasking, multi-sensor data fusion and mission-ready analytics when and where our customers need them,” said Brian O’Toole, BlackSky CEO.

Latest BlackSky Contracts

BlackSky Technology is ramping up its role in space-based intelligence and monitoring, leveraging new partnerships and cutting-edge technologies.

In June, the company announced plans to expand its satellite constellation by launching a new generation of multispectral satellites, called AROS, designed for wide-area surveillance, national-scale mapping, and 3D digital twin modeling.

The first launches are targeted for 2027, in collaboration with development partners.

The announcement came shortly after BlackSky’s second Gen-3 satellite delivered its first high-resolution, low-latency images just 12 hours post-launch.

The satellite was deployed under a multimillion-dollar contract with the US government, which was awarded in February.
