Brazil, EDGE Partner to Boost Naval Cyber Defense Capabilities

Brazil’s Navy has signed a deal with the UAE’s EDGE to strengthen its cyber defense capabilities as digital threats to military systems grow.

The memorandum of understanding, signed in São Paulo, establishes a framework for cooperation on securing naval networks, systems, and critical infrastructure, with an emphasis on resilience across maritime operations.

The partnership will explore establishing a dedicated unit and developing monitoring and protection tools tailored to naval environments, alongside efforts to secure operational technology used on ships and maritime systems.

It also includes training personnel responsible for safeguarding digital assets, while both sides assess how these capabilities can be integrated into naval operations from a technical, operational, and logistical standpoint.

Brazil Steps Up Cyber Defense Efforts

Brazil has expanded its cyber defense initiatives in recent years through partnerships and modernization programs aimed at protecting military and national infrastructure.

Brazil’s Cyber Defense Command in 2025 took part in a training led by US Southern Command focused on defending infrastructure, identifying vulnerabilities, and drawing up effective cyber responses.

In 2024, the Brazilian Armed Forces joined participants from 30 countries in the biggest cyber exercise in the Southern Hemisphere. Activities included responding to simulated virtual attacks against critical infrastructure.

The same year, the Brazilian Air Force announced that it was establishing its first cyber defense center.
