EDGE Group, Brazilian Army Team Up on Small Arms Testing for Special Forces
UAE state-owned defense company EDGE Group has launched a teaming framework with the Brazilian Army to support evaluations of next-generation small arms for special forces.
Assessments will be performed “in rigorous and realistic” military sites, with simulations incorporating high-stress, scenario-based activities.
Weapons included in the tests are the 5.56×45-millimeter CAR 816 tactical assault rifle and the 12.7×99-millimeter CSR50 anti-materiel sniper rifle.
Both systems are developed by EDGE subsidiary Caracal and designed to meet NATO standards.
According to EDGE, the cooperation aims to identify solutions to support the fielding of the covered rifles within the Brazilian Army while optimizing competency efforts for specialized troops operating assault and precision rifles.
It also reflects the consortium’s commitment to bolster knowledge exchange and collaborative development by leveraging expertise across engineering, operations, and logistics.
The Middle Eastern firm emphasized that the trials are expected to directly enhance the lethality and overall mission capability of Brazilian warfighters throughout the initiative.
“This agreement represents a further step in EDGE’s collaboration with the Brazilian Army, reinforcing its commitment to innovation, operational excellence, and the development of strategic capabilities in Brazil,” EDGE said.
Domestic Radar Production Base
The announcement comes after EDGE signed an agreement with Spain’s state-controlled enterprise Indra to plan radar production in Brazil.
The initiative, to be conducted with São Paulo-based SIATT, will leverage EDGE’s international market reach and Indra’s design and integration experience.
Work under this engagement is set to expand Brazil’s manufacturing capacity and industrial workforce, further reinforcing the South American country’s sovereign capabilities.
