L3Harris Expands GMLRS IM Rocket Production With $200M Lockheed Contract

L3Harris Technologies has received a follow-on contract worth up to $200 million to produce additional solid rocket motors for Lockheed’s Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) Insensitive Munition (IM).

The contract marks the first production order to be processed through L3Harris’ new facility in Camden, Arkansas, built with funding from the Defense Production Act Title III cooperative agreement.

L3Harris’ Camden facility, along with modernized production lines, is intended to meet heightened demand from the US and allied forces, ensuring rockets are delivered at scale and on schedule. This expansion allows the company to increase annual production capacity by more than 30 percent.

Inert component production will continue at L3Harris’ Advanced Manufacturing Facility-South in Huntsville, Alabama.

Scott Alexander, President of Missile Solutions at L3Harris, said the award underscores the company’s long-standing expertise in missile propulsion and its ability to deliver reliable, high-performance solutions for military operations.

L3Harris-Lockheed Relationship

The GMLRS is a GPS-guided artillery rocket that provides precision strike capability for long-range targets.

Each GMLRS IM rocket carries a reduced explosive hazard warhead and is designed to operate safely in storage and transport. Its accuracy and responsiveness have made it a core munition for US Army and allied artillery units.

L3Harris has been a long-time propulsion supplier for Lockheed Martin, supporting previous GMLRS contracts that expanded production to meet urgent operational requirements. It has steadily increased its output by nearly 80 percent through advanced manufacturing techniques.

This latest contract represents the largest 12-month GMLRS IM award L3Harris has received from Lockheed Martin to date.
