Cubic Defense to Supply 140 F-35 Air Combat Training Subsystems
California company Cubic Defense is set to deliver air combat training subsystems for Lockheed Martin’s F-35 Lot 21 production aircraft.
The follow-on contract, which builds on a November 2025 deal supporting Lockheed’s F-35 training program, covers 140 P5 Internal Subsystems (IS) units. Work will be carried out by Cubic and its principal subcontractor Leonardo DRS.
As a component of the broader P5 Combat Training System (P5CTS), the P5 IS enables 4th- and 5th-generation aircraft to conduct integrated live-flight training while protecting sensitive tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs).
P5CTS records, shares, and analyzes detailed training data from military aircraft during exercises through a connected global network.
It also allows forces to review performance both in real time and after missions, helping improve training systems and interoperability between the US Air Force, US Marine Corps, US Navy, and coalition partners.
“Our P5 capability delivers the data needed to accelerate decisions, strengthen operational advantage, and enhance readiness for US and allied forces,” said Tammy L. Schmidt, Cubic Defense’s VP and General Manager of Advanced Training Solutions.
Allied Training Support
Cubic specializes in advanced combat training systems and satellite communication solutions, supporting the US and its allied partners.
These include the CATS Metrix system to track soldier performance during combat training in Romania, providing logistics and support for the Canadian Army’s Weapon Effects Simulation program, and an Instrumented Live Training Area Weapons Effects System (ILT-A) for British forces.
