Red Cat Adds Kymeta Connectivity to Autonomous Maritime Systems
Red Cat is integrating Kymeta’s satellite communications technology into its uncrewed surface vessel (USV) program to maintain connectivity for autonomous maritime systems at sea.
The move brings Kymeta’s flat-panel satellite terminals into Blue Ops’ Variant 7 USV, part of Red Cat’s effort to strengthen communications for autonomous maritime missions.
Kymeta’s technology enables connectivity across multiple satellite orbits. By switching between networks as conditions change, the system aims to maintain communications in areas where traditional links may be disrupted or unavailable.
Within Red Cat’s maritime division, Blue Ops, the integration is aimed at enabling more coordinated unmanned operations. That includes real-time data exchange between platforms, distributed mission execution, and command-and-control functions for vessels operating beyond line of sight.
“Autonomous maritime systems are only as effective as the communications that connect them, especially when operating at range and in contested environments,” Kymeta CEO Manny Mora said.
Red Cat’s Wider Autonomy Ecosystem
Kymeta joins a growing list of companies working with Red Cat under the Futures Initiative, which focuses on accelerating autonomous systems, AI, and battlefield networking technologies.
In April, Red Cat partnered with Arastelle Drone Solutions to accelerate integration of autonomous systems for defense use, combining tethered drone technology with its Black Widow small UAV platform.
In March, the company announced that it is integrating Allen Control Systems’ Bullfrog AI-driven weapon into its Blue Ops USV to enable real-time counter-drone capability.
Earlier, in November 2025, Red Cat also partnered with Apium Swarm Robotics to transition drone swarming technology from testing to operational deployment.
