BAE Systems’ Swedish subsidiary Bofors has absorbed the Kristinehamn-based defense contractor Aston Harald Mekaniska Verkstad AB.
Founded in 2011, Aston Harald’s work centers on building complex mechanical components, with supplies directed for military, aerospace, and commercial applications.
The company employs about 100 personnel, adding to BAE’s current global workforce of 110,000 specialists in over 40 countries.
Bofors said that the buyout will enhance its production capacity and secure critical solutions for its flagship weapons, including the Archer 155-millimeter self-propelled howitzer and the Tridon Mk2 40-millimeter anti-aircraft artillery gun.
Aston Harald’s integration will also support the assembly of the Combat Vehicle 9040, as well as the 40 Mk4 and 57 Mk3 naval guns.
“Both companies have a strong cultural alignment derived from their shared Swedish heritage, mission focus and commitment to product excellence,” Bofors said.
“This … acquisition is expected to benefit Aston Harald Mekaniska Verkstad, BAE Systems, and their customers, by enhancing the companies’ capabilities to efficiently deliver the equipment needed to support the defence missions of Sweden and other NATO allied countries and the complex fabrication needed to support commercial customers across Europe.”
The deal remains subject to regulatory approvals and closing conditions.
BAE Systems is expected to complete the transaction by the second quarter of 2026.
