UAE state-owned EDGE Group and US-based Anduril are joining forces to develop and produce next-generation autonomous systems in a significant regional defense collaboration.
The joint venture, named the EDGE-Anduril Production Alliance, will focus on designing, manufacturing, and sustaining autonomous air systems, with the first platform being the Omen hover-to-cruise autonomous air vehicle.
The drone is designed for dual-use missions, capable of long-range operations, heavy payload delivery, and flexible deployment without the need for runways.
Anduril brings its software-driven expertise, including the Lattice Mission Autonomy platform, while EDGE contributes regional manufacturing experience and local knowledge.
This combination allows rapid development cycles, from design to full-rate production by the end of 2028, while maintaining compliance with US and UAE regulations.
The UAE has committed to acquiring an initial 50 Omens, ensuring a production base that will expand local supply chains and accelerate domestic mass production.
Beyond military applications, the Omen would support commercial and humanitarian missions, such as disaster relief, logistics delivery to remote areas, and mobile communications infrastructure.
Developments in UAE-US Defense Relations
The EDGE-Anduril joint venture builds on a series of collaborations between the UAE and US defense firms.
Abu Dhabi has acquired F-35 fighter jets and MQ-9 Reaper drones from the US, alongside advanced precision-guided munitions such as Joint Direct Attack Munition kits and AGM-114 Hellfire missiles.
Local partnerships with Lockheed Martin and Raytheon have supported the co-production of radar systems, missile defense components, and electronic warfare solutions.
The UAE has also worked with US companies on autonomous platforms, while participating in joint exercises to integrate American combat systems into regional operations.
