Terma, Sperry Marine Deliver SCANTER Radar for Canadian Naval Vessels

Danish defense firm Terma has teamed up with Northrop Grumman subsidiary Sperry Marine to supply advanced naval surveillance radars for two of Canada’s upcoming vessels.

The partnership will deliver SCANTER 4603 and SCANTER 6002 radars to Seaspan Shipyards, which is constructing the Canadian Coast Guard’s Multi-Purpose Vessel and Polar Icebreaker as part of the National Shipbuilding Strategy.

The ships will be used for a variety of missions, including sovereignty protection, search and rescue, and emergency response.

“With over 40 years of history in supporting the Canadian Coast Guard, Sperry Marine is uniquely positioned to address the growing demand for state-of-the-art maritime surveillance and support services,” said Colin Ross, Sperry Marine’s Naval Sales Director based in Canada.

SCANTER Radars

The radars are designed for the harsh Arctic and high-latitude environments, featuring comprehensive surface surveillance, medium to high-level aerial coverage, and electronic counter-countermeasure systems to protect against jamming.

Built to detect and track very small objects from up to 96 nautical miles (178 kilometers/110 miles) away, they are equipped with adaptive suppression of sea and land clutter for enhanced situational awareness in all weather conditions.
