Rheinmetall Selects Theon Sensors for $47M Turret Fire Control Deal
Rheinmetall has selected Theon Sensors to supply a stabilized electro-optical system for its CT25 turret fire control system for armored vehicles.
The agreement integrates Theon’s PHYLAX sensor suite into Rheinmetall Electronics’ SEOSS 210 P sight for 25mm lightweight turret applications, including the Luchs 2 reconnaissance vehicle.
It covers development, qualification, and serial supply, with an initial value exceeding 40 million euros ($47 million) for several hundred systems and potential expansion to other platforms.
PHYLAX combines a day camera, thermal imager, and laser rangefinder into a stabilized unit designed to improve target detection and situational awareness for armored combat.
According to Theon CEO Christian Hadjiminas, the deal “is anticipated to generate further prospects, and this contract marks the initial step among numerous opportunities that [the company] is pursuing on a global scale.”

Rheinmetall’s Defense Partnerships
Rheinmetall has expanded its cooperation with fellow European defense firms as it scales production and upgrades armored vehicle systems to meet NATO requirements.
In January, the German firm entered into an agreement with Swedish company SSAB to produce decarbonized steel for defense manufacturing. This makes Rheinmetall the first defense manufacturer to tap fossil-free steel in its production processes.
In July 2024, the company formed a joint venture with Leonardo to develop next-generation tanks and infantry fighting vehicles for Italy, aimed at strengthening Europe’s land systems industrial base.
That same month, Rheinmetall expanded its cooperation with Ukraine’s defense industry to support ammunition production and vehicle sustainment capacity during the ongoing war.
