Rheinmetall, ELVO Sign Deal to Assemble Military Trucks in Greece

Rheinmetall has signed a deal with Hellenic Vehicles Industries (ELVO) to assemble military trucks in Greece.

Under the memorandum of understanding, the two companies will work together to produce and integrate logistics vehicles and specialized military systems for the Hellenic Armed Forces.

Work will be centered at ELVO’s facility in Thessaloniki, where the partners plan to expand production lines and assemble trucks tailored for the army, navy, and air force.

The agreement also covers the integration of advanced superstructures, including air defense systems mounted on vehicle platforms.

Rheinmetall brings a portfolio of tactical and logistics vehicles ranging from 4×4 to 10×10 configurations, designed for off-road and high-mobility operations. Pairing that with ELVO’s local manufacturing base allows Greece to reduce reliance on imports while building up its domestic defense industry.

Beyond military capability, officials expect the partnership to create skilled jobs and support a wider supply chain in northern Greece.

“This collaboration reinforces Greece’s national industrial capabilities, creates economic development opportunities for the country and positions Thessaloniki as a strategic center for defense manufacturing and innovation,” ELVO General Manager Antonis Vitetzakis said.

Rheinmetall Expands Partnerships

The Greece deal follows a string of partnerships by Rheinmetall in 2026 aimed at scaling production and securing footholds closer to customers.

In March, Rheinmetall and Indra signed a strategic agreement to pursue a multibillion-euro Spanish Army truck program and expand joint defense production in Europe. The companies are expected to bid for a contract covering up to 3,000 military trucks, along with additional tactical vehicles.

The same month, Rheinmetall and Boeing Defence Australia announced a partnership to offer the MQ-28 Ghost Bat drone to Germany.

Rheinmetall’s Spanish subsidiary, Rheinmetall Expal Munitions, teamed up with EM&E Group in January to submit a proposal to the Spanish Ministry of Defence for an indigenous system under the SILAM high-mobility rocket launcher program.
