UAE’s EDGE Group to Upgrade Ecuador’s Border Surveillance

UAE state corporation EDGE Group has signed a letter of intent with Ecuador to develop a national security infrastructure program that will reinforce its border surveillance and protection systems.

The agreement was announced during an official visit of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Quito, highlighting expanding military cooperation between the two countries.

Under the planned multi-year program, EDGE will deliver advanced surveillance technologies designed to modernize Ecuador’s territorial defense operations.

The initiative also includes training projects and localization of tactical equipment development to support long-term operational readiness.

“This agreement represents a decisive step in deepening our strategic partnership with Ecuador’s Ministry of Defence,” EDGE Group Commercial President Omar Al Zaabi said.

He also highlighted that the initiative builds on the company’s implementation of complex national security and defense efforts across Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa.

Those initiatives involve surveillance architectures, sensor networks, and integrated command centers and competency programs aimed at improving domestic operational capacity.

“Through this initiative, we would bring that experience to Ecuador by deploying high performance surveillance and protection capabilities while building robust in-country expertise to secure lasting operational advantage and resilience,” Al Zaabi said.

Recent Partnerships

EDGE’s agreement with Ecuador comes after the company’s industry cooperation deal with South Korea, which enables a joint design, development, training, and sustainment project in support of multi-domain defense capabilities.

In February, the firm partnered with French defense contractor Safran to advance production and marketing of smart weapons for international customers.

Meanwhile, EDGE engaged with Qatar’s government enterprise Barzan Holdings in January to establish a joint venture that will address Abu Dhabi and Doha’s military equipment requirements, potentially including warheads, satellites, and maintenance services.

EDGE also launched a technology transfer framework with Madrid-based automotive company EM&E Group for the local production of the Ferox, a 6×6 Spanish armored vehicle based on UAE’s homegrown Jais Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected system.
