EDGE, EM&E Kick Off Ferox Armored Vehicle Production in Spain

The UAE’s state-owned company EDGE Group has signed a technology transfer agreement with EM&E Group to produce the Ferox 6×6 armored vehicle in Spain.

The cooperation allows the Madrid-based defense contractor to begin domestic assembly of the platform, based on EDGE’s proprietary Jais six-wheel Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) system.

It also supports the NATO country’s broader strategy of exporting military vehicles to the European market.

Manufacturing and associated integrations of the Ferox armored vehicle will take place at EM&E’s new facilities in Linares, Jaén.

Backing Industrial Objectives

The consortium said that localized production of the Ferox in Spain aligns with the global expansion goals of both companies.

It also reflects their dedication to advancing Europe’s industrial independence in ground-based defense, with capabilities that meet EU and NATO standards.

“Our transfer of technology to EM&E represents our growing commitment to supporting the modernisation requirements of European landward forces through establishing mutually beneficial partnerships within the European defence ecosystem,” said Khaled Al Zaabi, president of platforms and systems at EDGE.

“Aimed at bolstering the mission readiness of ground forces with advanced armoured vehicle solutions, the FEROX will offer regional forces the latest technology in protection and mobility.”

Ferox Specifications

EM&E introduced the Ferox in Madrid last May, where the firm highlighted it as a durable vehicle capable of withstanding blasts from enemy shells, landmine shards, and improvised explosive devices.

Similar to Abu Dhabi’s homegrown Jais, the Ferox measures approximately 7 meters (23 feet) in length, weighs 27,000 kilograms (59,525 pounds), and offers seating for up to 11 troops.

It uses an engine with an output of 600 horsepower, allowing speeds of 100 kilometers (62 miles) per hour and a range of 700 kilometers (435 miles).

The Ferox can be equipped with a remote-controlled station that could integrate a machine gun and anti-tank guided missiles.
