Lockheed, Fujitsu Formalize Collaboration for Japan’s SPY-7 Radar

Lockheed Martin has formalized Japanese IT company Fujitsu Limited as a supplier for a key component in Japan’s Aegis System Equipped Vessel (ASEV)’s SPY-7 radar antenna.

During the signing ceremony, both companies finalized the first purchase order of the SPY-7 Subarray Suite Power Supply Line Replaceable Unit (PS LRU), greenlighting Fujitsu to begin the mass production of the radar’s critical component.

This follows a memorandum of understanding signed in May 2025 that designated the Japanese firm to supply the PS LRU.

Officials from both companies noted that the collaboration strengthens Japan’s long-term defense capabilities and supply chain resilience amid evolving Indo-Pacific security challenges.

“Lockheed Martin’s collaboration with Fujitsu cements our commitment to establishing a Japan‑based supply chain for ASEV’s SPY‑7 radar that will keep the fleet mission‑ready for decades,” said Chandra Marshall, VP and General Manager at Lockheed Martin.

The SPY-7 radar is a solid-state system with advanced detection and tracking capabilities, capable of engaging multiple targets simultaneously, including ballistic missiles, anti-air weapons, and hypersonic threats.

It can also discriminate between real threats and decoys.

As a modular system, it can be integrated onto ships of varying sizes, including Japan’s ASEVs, Canada’s River-Class destroyers, and Spain’s F-110 frigates.
