AM General has received a $126.5-million contract to deliver additional M1165A1B3 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles, or Humvees, for the US Army.
The effort is a follow-up to a previously awarded deal, increasing the prime contract’s value to $3 billion.
The Pentagon did not disclose the quantity of the latest order, but the new vehicles will add to the roughly 120,000 Humvees currently in the force’s inventory.
Work on the program will be carried out in South Bend, Indiana, with completion expected by August 2027.
The company will coordinate with the Army Contracting Command – Detroit Arsenal in Michigan to fulfill the order.
Washington’s latest Humvee procurement follows AM General’s signing of a separate Humvee deal worth $150 million with Israel.
Tel Aviv will begin receiving the vehicles later this year, with the platforms intended to replenish depleted land systems amid the conflict with Hamas in Gaza and to prepare for future security challenges.
The Humvee
AM General’s Humvee was first introduced in the 1980s and has since undergone multiple upgrades to meet the demands of evolving battlefields.
Depending on the configuration, the 4×4 vehicle can measure up to 15 feet (5 meters) in length and accommodate up to six personnel.
It is powered by a Detroit Diesel V8 with about 190 horsepower and a four-speed automatic transmission for a range of 350 miles (563 kilometers) and speeds of more than 70 miles (113 kilometers) per hour.
For offense, the system can be fitted with a 40-millimeter grenade launcher, a .50-caliber heavy machine gun, a 7.62-millimeter infantry support gun, a 5.56-millimeter close-range gun, and an anti-tank missile launcher.
