Israel Orders $150M Humvee Fleet From AM General
Israel’s defense ministry has signed a contract with US manufacturer AM General to procure “hundreds of High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles,” also known as Humvees, and spare parts support.
US military aid was used to fund the purchase worth 500 million Israeli new shekels ($150 million), with the first tranche expected to be delivered later this year.
The vehicles will be used by the Israeli military’s Ground Forces to replenish equipment after nearly two years of war with Gaza and to prepare for future conflicts, according to Israeli outlet Ynet.
Israeli Fleet
Humvees are light combat mobility vehicles designed for a variety of missions, including troop transport, logistics, and special operations.
For the Israeli Defense Forces, the ordered fleet was configured to accommodate over 10 soldiers, evacuate multiple casualties, and provide enhanced fire support.
Humvees have been a staple in the US military for decades. However, they are being partially replaced by the Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs).
In 2023, Israel purchased 75 JLTVs via a foreign military sale and hundreds more via a direct commercial sale. This was followed by another order of an unspecified number of JLTVs in November 2024.
