Dynetics to Deliver IFPC Air Defense Systems Under $617M US Army Deal

The US Army has awarded Dynetics a $617-million production contract for Indirect Fire Protection Capability (IFPC) Increment 2 systems.

The contract covers the delivery of launchers, retrofit prototype launchers, all-up-round magazines, soldier training systems, weight-representative training devices, contractor logistics support, initial spares, and engineering services.

Work locations and funding will be specified with each order, with completion expected by November 30, 2029.

The award follows a broader $4.1-billion contract secured by Dynetics in 2024 for IFPC Increment 2, encompassing low-rate initial production, full-rate production, and associated support services.

An initial contract of up to $204 million covered the low-rate production of 18 launchers. The latest agreement — covering a mix of hardware, training systems, and sustainment support — likely signals the transition to full-rate production.

IFPC Increment 2

Designed to bridge the gap between short-range air defense and higher-tier systems like the Patriot missile system, IFPC Increment 1 focused on countering rockets, artillery, and mortars, while Increment 2 expands coverage to cruise missiles and unmanned aerial systems.

An IFPC platoon fields four ground-based launchers integrated with at least one AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel radar via the Integrated Battle Command System.

The system can be integrated with assets including the Patriot and the Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor, forming a layered defense to protect high-value fixed and semi-fixed sites from diverse aerial threats.

It currently employs AIM-9X Sidewinder interceptors, while a more advanced missile capable of defeating lower-flying, supersonic cruise threats is being pursued.
