Textron to Provide T-6 Texan II Fleet Support for US Military

Textron Aviation Defense has secured a contract valued at more than $150 million to deliver program management and maintenance support for the US military’s T-6 Texan II training aircraft.

The deal is an extension of a 2021 agreement to provide systems engineering, portfolio oversight, repairs, and modifications for the platforms.

The latest award covers T-6A, T-6B, and T-6D variants across the US Air Force, US Navy, and US Army, and increases the framework’s overall ceiling to $510 million.

Textron will facilitate related activities at its center in Wichita, Kansas, for five years.

“This follow‑on [Sustaining Engineering and Program Management] contract reflects the US Government T-6 Joint Program Office’s continued confidence in our team and our ability to keep the T‑6 Texan II fleet mission‑ready,” said Travis Tyler, president and CEO at Textron Aviation Defense.

“Our focus remains on sustaining aircraft availability and supporting our customers as they train the next generation of military pilots.”

Texan II Specifications

Based on the Swiss-developed Pilatus PC-9, the Texan II was introduced in the 2000s to replace the US joint forces’ aging airframes used for primary and intermediate flight lessons.

The two-seat plane has a length of 33 feet (10 meters) and offers compatibility with NATO-standard weapons and modern tools to match evolving training requisites.

It operates with a 1,100-horsepower Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A turboprop engine and a four-bladed Hartzell propeller for altitudes up to 31,000 feet (9,144 meters), a range of 900 nautical miles (1,036 miles/1,667 kilometers), and a maximum speed of 280 knots (322 miles/519 kilometers per hour).

So far, approximately 1,000 Texan IIs are employed in 15 countries and have a combined 5 million flight hours.
