Pratt & Whitney to Deliver TJ150 Engines for Black Arrow Missiles

RTX segment Pratt & Whitney has secured a contract to provide TJ150 turbojet engines for Leidos Dynetics’ Black Arrow air-to-ground missile.

The agreement follows the US Air Force’s announcement of the small cruise missile’s AGM-190A military designation, officially recognizing it as an operational stand-off capability in the arsenal.

The TJ150 has a compact structure that can be produced in shorter timescales with the support of advanced 3D printing methods while retaining operational performance.

It offers more than 150 pounds (68 kilograms) of thrust, making it compatible with both weapons and autonomous systems requiring high elevation.

Inside the Black Arrow, the propulsion system enables a speed of Mach 0.8 (613 miles/988 kilometers per hour) and an altitude of 30,000 feet (9,144 meters).

According to Pratt & Whitney, the TJ150 is employed by 2,700 international customers to date.

Leidos first partnered with Pratt & Whitney for the supply of TJ150 engines in support of Black Arrow development in June 2025.

“Meeting today’s mission demands requires speed and reliable performance, and the TJ150 engine delivers on both,” said Jessica Villardi, vice president of Fighter and Mobility Programs at Pratt & Whitney.

“The engine’s performance and availability make it an ideal fit for effectors, as it provides consistent thrust and supports seamless vehicle integration.”
