Pentagon Orders 121 Infantry Squad Vehicles From GM Defense

The US Department of Defense has awarded GM Defense an $18.8-million contract for the procurement of additional Infantry Squad Vehicles (ISV).

The deal includes 121 ISV platforms, associated storage covers, anti-lock brake systems, and electronic stability control kits.

According to the Pentagon’s notice, the agreement has a total value of $458.4 million if future options are exercised.

Work locations and corresponding funding will be announced in each order, with the overall framework to be completed by 2027.

The Michigan-based company will coordinate with the US Army Contracting Command in Detroit, which oversees the acquisition effort.

1,100+ Vehicles in Service

GM Defense’s award follows a separate contract it received in February 2025 for an undisclosed quantity of ISVs for the US Army.

The deal allowed vehicle orders until December 2025.

As of November of that year, US government records show that the service has 1,105 ISVs in its inventory.

For the total vehicles under the initiative, an army defense budget for fiscal 2026 said that the military plans to acquire up to 9,282 systems.

The Infantry Squad Vehicle

GM Defense’s ISV is derived from the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 pickup truck and can be integrated with machine guns, grenade launchers, and a counter-unmanned aerial system weapon.

It is transportable via heavy-lift helicopter and deployable via low-velocity airdrop from large cargo aircraft.

The vehicle offers seating for up to nine passengers and can carry payloads weighing up to 3,200 pounds (1,451 kilograms).

The ISV is fitted with a rollover protection system, an automatic six-speed transmission, and a 2.8-liter Duramax turbo diesel engine with an output of 275 horsepower for speeds around 60 miles (97 kilometers) per hour.
