Germany Orders Raytheon ELCAN Specter DR Weapon Sights

Germany has awarded RTX’s Raytheon ELCAN optical systems business a contract to provide its Specter DR 1-4x weapon sight in a bespoke configuration tailored to German operational needs as part of the country’s soldier modernization drive.

Under the agreement, Raytheon will work with Leonardo Germany to deliver a custom sight that incorporates an Aimpoint reflex unit above the primary optic.

This will allow soldiers to transition quickly between close-quarters and mid-range engagements.

“The German Armed Forces are undertaking a major enhancement of their soldier system capability, and we are providing a tailored optical solution that supports their evolving operational needs,” Raytheon ELCAN Business Development & Strategy Manager Chris Reimer said.

Specter DR Procurement Across Europe

The production contract follows a broader trend in Europe toward enhanced infantry optics packages featuring multiband laser protection, special reticles, and nation-specific finishes.

Demand for the Specter DR family has surged across several European armies since August 2024, with Germany, Denmark, Lithuania, Spain, Italy, and Finland jointly ordering more than 100,000 units worth over 193 million euros ($228 million).

Denmark has been among the earliest recent adopters of the Specter DR platform.

In February 2025, the Danish Defence Armed Forces awarded Raytheon a multi-million-dollar contract through the NATO Support and Procurement Agency to supply Specter DR dual-role sights, replacing older fixed optical models and enhancing both close-quarters and precision aiming capability for infantry units.
