The German arms procurement agency has awarded Turbo-Technik a contract to integrate the newly inducted NH90 Sea Tiger helicopter onto F124-class frigates.
The contract includes structural modifications to the warships, particularly around the flight deck and hangar, along with the integration of interfaces and systems necessary for operations, maintenance, and repair.
Once completed, the NH90 Sea Tiger will replace the aging Sea Lynx Mk88A fleet, which entered service in 1981.
“The integration of the NH90 Sea Tiger onto the F124 class is a demanding integration project on operationally proven units of the German Navy,” managing partner of Turbo-Technik, Martin M. Dassler, was quoted as saying.
“Our team is highly motivated and ready to contribute its experience with this class of ship, as well as with system integrations and product modifications, to this project.”
NH90 Sea Tiger
The German Navy ordered 31 NH90 Sea Tiger helicopters in 2020 under a 2.7-billion-euro ($3.16-billion) program and received the first aircraft in December.
Equipped with advanced sensors, avionics, and weapon systems, the helicopter is designed to significantly strengthen the German Navy’s frigate fleet against underwater and surface threats.
In addition to combat operations, it can also conduct reconnaissance, search-and-rescue, and transport missions.
The Sea Tiger features a mission system optimized for anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, including torpedoes and missiles.
It is also equipped with a dipping sonar system and an advanced sonobuoy suite for precise underwater situational awareness and submarine detection. Electro-optical sensors and camera systems further enhance its maritime surveillance and target acquisition capabilities.
