SAP SE Launches Munich Hub to Boost Military Digital Readiness

German software engineering company SAP SE has inaugurated a defense innovation hub in Munich to improve digital readiness for armed forces and security customers amid the rise in modern and hybrid cyber threats.

The developer said its new center reflects a long-term commitment to support the digital resilience of militaries, their missions, allies, and supply chains.

The facility will blend data, artificial intelligence, and industry expertise to promote integrated solutions in support of defense logistics, arms sales, equipment manufacturing, training, and sustainment.

Thomas Saueressig, board member of customer services and delivery at SAP SE, explained that the Munich center signifies the role of digital systems in advancing mission preparedness while ensuring oversight, regulatory compliance, and operational autonomy.

“Defense readiness today is no longer defined by equipment alone: It is defined by how well people, processes and partners are connected,” Saueressig said.

“In an increasingly volatile security environment, armed forces need systems they can trust — systems that are resilient, interoperable and sovereign.”

Strategic Location

According to SAP, locating its newest facility in Munich allows the company to tap into the city’s cluster of startups, established defense firms, academic groups, and government agencies.

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) is among the hub’s initial partners, supporting the initiative through research collaboration.

The institute recently launched its “Security and Defense Alliance” program to connect emerging regional businesses with major defense industry partners.

That effort aims to identify next-generation, marketable solutions for operational capabilities that support “deterrence, crisis prevention, stabilization, and peacekeeping.”

“The Technical University of Munich is pleased to collaborate with SAP in translating advanced research into operational security and defense capabilities,” said Chiara Manfletti, aerospace department head and scientific lead of the Security and Defense Alliance at TUM.

“As technological innovation accelerates, strategic partnerships such as this ensure that cutting-edge scientific developments can be rapidly deployed to strengthen operational readiness.”
