US Army Seeks Medium-Range Launched Effects Capability

The US Army is seeking potential suppliers for its Long Range Precision Munition (LRPM) program to equip ground forces and army aviation with an organic, rapidly deployable weapon for engaging time-sensitive, high-value targets beyond the range of traditional artillery and direct-fire systems.

Under the LRPM Launched Effects – Medium Range (LE MR) Lethal Capability project, the army seeks a precision munition with a range exceeding 100 kilometers (62 miles) to enable strikes against integrated air defense systems in complex, contested environments.

The Launched Effects program envisions munitions of varying ranges capable of delivering sensors, electronic warfare, and precision-strike payloads to extend the reach of army aviation in denied battlespaces.

As part of this effort, the army recently selected AEVEX’s Atlas Precision Strike System for the Launched Effects – Short Range capability.

Launched Effects – Medium Range

The LE-MR effort centers on integrating a US government-designed lethal payload with a commercial or modified unmanned air vehicle, with the government providing technical data packages and software for the payload, seeker, and guidance systems.

The selected contractor will procure the remaining components and integrate them into a complete all-up round.

LRPM prototypes must be launch-compatible with the government-developed launched-effects dispenser for ground and rotary-wing platforms.

Prototype Delivery From 2027

The contractor is expected to deliver between 200 and 600 fieldable LRPM prototypes and provide associated technical and sustainment support to army units.

Program funding is anticipated to range between $100 million and $200 million, with a prototype Other Transaction Agreement expected to be awarded in October 2026 and prototype deliveries planned between June 2027 and September 2031.

Upon successful completion of the prototype effort, the government may award a follow-on production contract without further competitive procedures.
