Israel Aerospace Industries Unveils Extended-Range LAHAT ALPHA Missile
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has launched the LAHAT ALPHA, a next-generation addition to its Laser-Homing Anti-Tank (LAHAT) missile series, designed for engagements beyond 20 kilometers (12 miles).
The 2-meter (6.5-foot), 25-kilogram (55-pound) system features a large warhead effective against armored vehicles, fortified structures, coastal positions, and fast-moving targets.
Built for stand-off operations, the anti-tank missile can be launched from ground vehicles or helicopters to strike targets designated by ground or airborne laser designators. According to IAI, the missile’s laser-homing guidance enables reliable operation in GPS-denied environments.
In addition, the company says that LAHAT ALPHA is easy to operate, requiring less than one week of operator training.
The anti-tank missile “reflects IAI’s dedication to delivering proven capabilities that address modern army needs for volume and precision at extended ranges,” IAI President and CEO Boaz Levy noted.
Meanwhile, EVP of IAI’s Systems, Missiles, and Space Group Guy Barlev said, “LAHAT ALPHA was developed to meet our customers’ requirements, adding range and lethality to a highly effective, proven missile, meeting the global demand for powerful and competitively priced missiles.”
LAHAT ALPHA’s rollout reflects a broader global shift toward precision-guided munitions capable of delivering tank-level lethality from safer, stand-off distances.
Similar systems — such as Rafael’s Spike NLOS and Lockheed Martin’s Joint-Air-to-Ground Missile (JAGM) — highlight the growing demand for cost-effective, network-enabled weapons optimized for fast deployment and integration across multiple platforms.
