Ukraine’s Himera Scores First NATO Contract for Battlefield Radios

Ukrainian communications firm Himera has completed its first state order for the defense ministry of a NATO member country.

The European customer, who requested anonymity, received Himera’s secure battlefield communication systems, the firm’s first confirmed export under a government contract. The delivery included training for military and liaison units, which will integrate the radios into existing command networks.

The systems were assessed for low radio visibility, resistance to electronic warfare, ease of use, and extended battery life. Himera said the evaluation confirmed the competitiveness of its technology and the growing interest from allied partners.

Increasing Interest in Ukraine Defense Firms

Himera’s success reflects a broader trend among Ukrainian defense firms gaining traction with NATO militaries.

The company’s radios have been used by Ukrainian infantry, special operations units, and drone operators, providing secure communications during operations in heavily jammed areas such as Bakhmut and Avdiivka.

Other Ukrainian firms have seen similar momentum. Kvertus Technology has exported electronic warfare and drone suppression systems, while Ukrainian Armor and Infozahyst have partnered with European companies on armored vehicles and surveillance platforms.

In 2024, Poland and Lithuania began evaluations of Ukrainian communications and drone systems for potential procurement.

Himera said it plans to expand production capacity and pursue additional government tenders within Europe in 2025.
