L3Harris, RFTEQ to Support Next-Gen EW Solutions in Australia

L3Harris Technologies and RFTEQ have signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance electronic warfare (EW) capabilities for the Australian Defence Organisation (ADO).

ADO combines intergovernmental entities with domestic commercial partners to boost Australia’s overall domestic security and industrial base.

The latest collaboration allows L3Harris to contribute to the consortium through its design, integration, and manufacturing expertise across electromagnetic tools as well as intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance systems.

Work will be integrated with RFTEQ’s existing advanced radio frequency portfolio, which incorporates base modules and custom solutions, microwave technologies, and test and measurement equipment.

According to the companies, the strategic partnership backs Canberra’s goal of establishing self-reliance in defense technology while reinforcing its posture to respond to modern global threats.

“RFTEQ specialises in advanced radio frequency engineering for defence applications, and this collaboration brings together complementary Australian expertise in electronic warfare,” said David Kinnaird, CEO of RFTEQ.

“By working with L3Harris, we are strengthening local industry capability and supporting the development of innovative solutions aligned with Australia’s evolving mission needs.”

Expansion in Australia

The teaming follows L3Harris’ separate efforts to grow its Australian footprint, including the launch of an electronic warfare facility in Brisbane in 2024 and an Indo-Pacific support hub in Pinkenba in 2025.

The Florida-headquartered company also introduced the NETwork Control and Service Translation Enhanced Router or NETCASTER, a locally-designed device that offers improved tactical connectivity as opposed to conventional routers.

“L3Harris has a shared commitment with the Commonwealth … in support of priority capabilities and the modernisation of the Australian Defence Force to address contemporary EW threats,” said Ian Charles, managing director of Global Spectrum Superiority Australia division at L3Harris.

“Our collaboration with RFTEQ … enhances our ability to deliver mission-critical solutions.”
