French company Naval Group and Athens-based Metlen have signed a memorandum of understanding to expand their partnership on submarine and surface combatant programs.
Signed in Volos, the agreement aims to position the Greek firm as a strategic contributor within Naval Group’s supply chain.
The deal also supports the team’s effort to deepen collaboration across existing programs under the French and Hellenic Armed Forces, in which Metlen serves as manufacturer for key components.
Beyond their countries’ militaries, the consortium plans to promote its expertise and products to international markets.
‘Shared Ambition’
Cooperation between the two companies began in 2022 under the FDI frigate construction work for the Hellenic Navy.
As part of that initiative, Naval Group launched a Hellenic Industrial Participation framework involving more than 70 Greek industry partners, integrating domestic firms into its supply network.
Metlen has also expanded its defense footprint through its Volos-based subsidiary M Technologies, including plans for a six-facility industrial hub in the region to support European defense programs and advanced manufacturing.
“This agreement highlights the shared ambition of both companies to support complex naval systems and contribute to a more resilient and competitive European defence ecosystem,” Metlen said.
“It also reflects the steadily strengthening Franco-Greek industrial ties, further reinforcing bilateral cooperation.”
