US Army Selects Elbit for Black Hawk, Chinook Heads-Up Displays

The US Army has awarded Elbit Systems of America a $49.9-million contract to produce heads-up displays (HUDs) for its UH-60 Black Hawk and CH-47 Chinook helicopter fleets.

The colorized Air Warrior HUD projects critical flight and mission data directly into the aircrew’s line of sight, enabling them to remain head-up and focused outside the aircraft rather than on cockpit instruments.

It is part of the army’s Air Soldier System program, an integrated suite of lightweight gear and equipment designed to enhance rotorcraft aircrew situational awareness and survivability.

The program is gradually replacing the heavier equipment of the Air Warrior system, introduced in 2004.

The contract runs through December 2030 and includes post-production support.

“Since our inception, Elbit America has been dedicated to improving situational awareness through sophisticated displays that enhance a user’s understanding of the conditions outside their aircraft or vehicle,” Senior Vice President of Electronic Systems at Elbit America, Scott Tumpak, said.

Elbit America President & CEO Luke Savoie added: “In high-stakes environments, you don’t have time for uncertainty. Elbit America delivers combat-proven heads-up displays that provide aircrew the confidence to see first, act first, and win.”
