Indra, Leonardo Target International Growth With Cyber Defense Partnership

Spanish defense contractor Indra Group and Leonardo in Italy have signed a memorandum of understanding to advance cooperation in cyber defense and expand reach in Europe, NATO, and other international markets.

The agreement, signed at Leonardo’s headquarters in Rome by Indra CEO José Vicente de los Mozos and Leonardo CEO Roberto Cingolani, aims to reinforce digital security for critical infrastructure and promote innovation.

The consortium plans to jointly deliver advanced cyber solutions, specialized training, and cyber management services for both public and private customers while coordinating responses to analyze evolving threats.

Ángel Escribano, Indra’s executive chairman, said the deal will help streamline European industrial cooperation and support joint bids.

“Our role as a trailblazing company will enable us to activate value chains based on sovereign, open, and interoperable capabilities for Europe and NATO, ensuring that the critical knowledge and technological property remain under EU control,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Cingolani called cybersecurity a core pillar of Leonardo’s strategy.

“European defence must innovate, anticipate, and cooperate,” he said. “By pooling Leonardo’s expertise and proprietary technologies … we aim to transform technological innovation into tangible value for our nations.”

As of early 2026, Indra Group has over 60,000 employees globally, while Leonardo has a similar number of workers worldwide.

About 36,000 of Indra’s specialists are concentrated in Spain, while approximately 37,000 of Leonardo’s experts are in Italy.
