Peru has ordered an additional C-27J Spartan aircraft as the country continues expanding tactical airlift capacity for disaster response, medical evacuation, and operations in remote regions.
The new aircraft will bring the Peruvian Air Force’s C-27J fleet to five units, with delivery scheduled for 2027.
Leonardo said the aircraft will be Peru’s first C-27J in the “Next Generation” configuration, which includes updated avionics and aerodynamic improvements aimed at increasing efficiency and operational performance.
Peru has used the Spartan fleet extensively since introducing the aircraft in 2015, particularly for missions across the Andes and isolated areas with limited infrastructure.
According to the company, the fleet had logged nearly 16,000 flight hours by early 2026, including hundreds of medical evacuation missions and transport operations involving cargo, emergency supplies, and passengers.
The aircraft is designed to operate from short and unpaved airstrips, including locations with minimal ground support or lighting, capabilities that have made it central to Peru’s disaster response and logistics operations.
More Countries Expand C-27J Fleets
Peru’s latest order marks the 100th C-27J procured globally across 21 operators, according to the company, as countries seek tactical transport aircraft capable of operating in difficult terrain and austere environments.
In February, Saudi Arabia ordered four Leonardo C-27J Maritime Patrol Aircraft, marking the first procurement of the variant with integrated maritime weapons capability.
In December 2025, Leonardo signed a contract to provide logistics and simulator support for the Italian Air Force’s fleet of 12 C-27J Spartan aircraft.
Earlier, in December 2024, Slovenia received its second C-27J Spartan transport aircraft for the 15th Aviation Wing of the Slovenian Armed Forces.
