Australian Firm Unveils Laser Weapons Plant in Singapore

Australian company Electro Optic Systems (EOS) has inaugurated a new center in Singapore to build high-energy laser weapon systems, establishing a regional hub to support international defense customers.

The site will support EOS’ growing pipeline of laser deals, including an export order for a 100-kilowatt-class laser weapon system for the Netherlands and an agreement worth $80 million to supply a similar system for a customer in South Korea

EOS’ high-energy laser systems, including its Apollo solution, are designed to counter drones and saturation threats.

Each can plug into existing air defense systems and destroy targets at low cost, without running out of ammunition.

Backing Several Laser Efforts

According to the Australian company, the hub’s overall structure is tailored to system integration, assembly, demonstration, and maintanance.

It is also expected to boost production capacity, maintain supply chain resilience, and cut response times for regional customers.

“The Singapore facility will operate as EOS’ centre of excellence in laser technology innovation, supporting multiple international laser projects,” said Andreas Schwer, CEO at EOS.

“As demand grows, EOS expects future expansion to increasingly involve localised production and integration, driven by customer requirements for sovereignty and long-term control of capability development.”
