EOS Expands Export Footprint With $80M S. Korea Laser Weapon Deal
Australian firm Electro Optic Systems (EOS) has signed a binding conditional agreement worth $80 million to manufacture and supply its flagship 100-kilowatt high-energy laser weapon for a customer in South Korea.
The solution, designed to counter aerial drones, deploys beam strikes at the speed of light, neutralizing multiple targets in under a minute with each shot, costing less than 10 cents. It can destroy threats in just two seconds or less, according to the company.
Under the deal, EOS will also create a joint venture with its Korean partner to develop and supply 100-kilowatt laser weapons for the local market and license related intellectual property to the offshoot business, subject to regulatory approvals and contract conditions.
Associated production for the supply order will be facilitated at EOS’ newly-established laser weapons factory in Singapore.
The company noted that the agreement’s overall term includes an initial $18 million deposit, issuance of a letter of credit for the remaining balance, as well as customer inspection and acceptance of the Singapore hub.
The party expects those steps to be completed before January 2026.
Future payments will be milestone-based and include full refund provisions in the event of non-performance.
If the conditions are met, EOS expects to deliver the system to Korea by the end of 2027, followed by in-country demonstrations.
Meanwhile, licensing consideration tied to the joint venture would be payable after the venture’s establishment and the achievement of target milestones.
This agreement marks EOS’ second export order for its 100-kilowatt class laser defense system, following a deal with a Western European customer announced in August 2025.
