BlackSky Secures New International Defense Contracts for ISR Satellite Subscription

BlackSky Technology has received multiple contracts to provide Gen-3 Assured satellite services to a new international defense user, expanding the company’s global footprint.

The deals build on the firm’s early access framework, reflecting the customer’s interest in efficiently implementing space-based intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance assets to support military operations.

Valued at “seven figures,” the contracts enable “guaranteed, priority access” to the Virginia company’s Gen-3 satellite network over designated operational areas.

“This partnership reflects continued traction against our land-and-expand strategy,” BlackSky Chief Executive Brian O’Toole stated, adding that Assured framework to Gen-3 capacity has become “essential” for customers facing fast-moving threats.

“The quality and reliability of collections experienced during Assured early access programs play a key factor in compelling customers to renew their subscriptions,” he continued.

Gen-3 Capabilities

BlackSky’s Gen-3 constellation supports dynamic monitoring with multiple daily revisits, on-demand tasking, and rapid data delivery.

The satellites provide imagery at 35-centimeter (14-inch) resolution and can deliver data within an hour of collection.

The system also applies artificial intelligence to maintain automated detection, identification, and classification of aircraft, vehicles, vessels, and other military platforms at speed.

Gen-3 also supports persistent monitoring of activity patterns across land borders and maritime zones.
