QinetiQ Lands $275M Contract Extension to Support RAF Typhoons
QinetiQ has been awarded a five-year contract extension by the UK Ministry of Defence to continue providing mission-critical support for the Royal Air Force’s (RAF) Typhoon fighter jets.
The 205-million-pound ($275 million) deal is centered on advanced engineering services aimed at maintaining aircraft capability and pilot safety, while reducing the time and cost required to return Typhoons to operational status.
It also covers foundational technical support to the UK armed forces and export customers, with the company using AI-enabled and digital engineering tools to accelerate the required work.
AI-Enabled Sustainment
QinetiQ said it will invest 10 million pounds ($13 million) to expand the use of digital engineering and artificial intelligence across Typhoon sustainment and its other services for the British armed forces, building on partnerships with UK-based AI firms.
The contract will be delivered through the Aurora Engineering Delivery Partnership, a QinetiQ-led consortium that includes Atkins, BMT, Frazer-Nash, KBR, and more than 380 companies that provide engineering support services to the defense ministry.
RAF Eurofighter Typhoon
The Eurofighter Typhoon is the RAF’s main air defense fighter and a frontline combat aircraft, responsible for protecting UK skies and projecting air power abroad.
“Through our continued investment in the Typhoon programme and last year’s £8 billion Typhoon export deal with Türkiye, we are showing how defence is an engine for growth supporting prosperity across the country,” said Minister for Defence Readiness and Industry Luke Pollard.
It will remain in RAF service into the 2040s and continue to work alongside the UK’s F-35 Lightning II jets.
