Elbit to Equip European Aircraft With J-MUSIC DIRCM Self-Protection Suite

Israel’s Elbit Systems has been awarded contracts worth approximately $150 million to equip the aircraft fleets of European customers with its advanced J-MUSIC Directed Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM) systems.

Under the first contract, Elbit will supply the system for installation on “high-value airborne platforms” operated by an undisclosed European country.

Additional orders cover the transport aircraft fleets of European NATO member states, enhancing operational safety and survivability during strategic airlift missions.

The contracts follow a $260-million agreement Elbit signed with Airbus Defence and Space in July to provide the DIRCM suite for the German Air Force’s A400M transport aircraft.

“The continued trust the European and global community places in Elbit Systems’ DIRCM self-protection solutions reflects the company’s growing reputation as an innovative airborne defense technology provider, offering effective protection for aircraft and personnel against the most advanced threats,” General Manager of Elbit Systems ISTAR & EW Oren Sabag said.

J-MUSIC DIRCM System

A DIRCM system protects aircraft from infrared-homing missiles, particularly those fired from man-portable air defense systems, which pose a significant threat to transport aircraft, tankers, special-mission platforms, and VIP jets.

Elbit’s J-MUSIC system combines advanced laser technology with state-of-the-art imaging capabilities to provide a high level of DIRCM protection against a broad spectrum of heat-seeking ground-to-air infrared missile threats.

The lightweight, compact system is designed for distributed installation across a wide range of aircraft types and supports both single- and multi-turret configurations.

Its open-architecture design also allows integration with various missile warning systems, delivering comprehensive protection for both civil and military operators.
