Finnish companies Sisu Auto and Valmet Automotive have signed a teaming agreement to utilize the latter’s Uusikaupunki factory in support of Helsinki’s effort to expand military vehicle production.
Valmet’s Uusikaupunki plant in the southwest of the country is known for manufacturing luxury and sports cars, as well as related roof and kinematic components.
Among the site’s previous automobile clients are Fisker, Mercedes-Benz, Opel, Porsche, and Saab.
For Sisu GT Series
The collaboration will center on the assembly of Sisu’s GT family of defense vehicles, which includes the GTP 4×4 tactical system and the GTT all-terrain vehicle.
The GTP is a mine-resistant ambush-protected armored personnel carrier that can be dispatched across harsh environments, while the GTT is a multi-purpose platform with various configurations, including transport, command and control, artillery, and medical evacuation.
The site’s increased production is expected to have a significant employment impact locally, with expanded capacity for up to 300 vehicles projected to create more than 300 jobs annually.

Patria Collaboration
The launch of GT manufacturing at Uusikaupunki comes after Valmet’s latest partner, Finnish defense contractor Patria, signed a similar cooperation in early December for the construction of its Protected Mobility vehicle series at the site.
Development of vehicles under this separate deal will begin in 2026.
