Patria, Valmet Automotive Partner on Armored Vehicle Manufacturing, Tech Transfer

Finnish firms Patria and Valmet Automotive have partnered to work together on technology transfer to produce Patria’s armored vehicles, as well as on the manufacture of an initial batch.

The companies have not disclosed the value of the arrangement.

The first vehicles are scheduled to be built at Valmet Automotive’s Uusikaupunki plant, located in southwest Finland, in the second half of 2026.

“While Patria’s production is at a very good level for delivering all existing and anticipated orders, we are nevertheless seeking additional capacity, especially for future demand,” said Jussi Järvinen, Executive VP of Patria’s Protected Mobility business area.

“Technology transfer is a natural part of Patria’s business model, and this is the first and important step also in cooperation with Valmet Automotive.”

Valmet Automotive is a contract manufacturer that builds vehicles and specialized automotive systems for major brands, including past production programs for Saab.

The new agreement followed a letter of intent the two companies signed in October to explore cooperation on armored vehicle production and testing.

Patria’s Vehicles in Europe

The agreement comes as Patria’s armored vehicle programs continue to expand across Europe.

Sweden recently ordered 94 additional Patria 6×6 vehicles, bringing the total to 321 units under a contract signed in March 2024.

The new order, valued at about 1.5 billion Swedish krona ($160 million), brings Sweden’s total fleet to 415 vehicles scheduled for delivery between 2025 and 2030.

In November, Latvia completed the handover of 21 domestically produced Patria 6×6 APCs donated to Ukraine, part of a broader commitment to supply 42 vehicles.

Earlier in the year, Denmark selected Patria to provide 129 CAVS 6×6 platforms.
