Rheinmetall UK has been contracted to bring its Trailblazer Driver Vision and Local Situation Awareness System to the British Army’s M270 A2 Multiple Launch Rocket System.
Prototypes are expected in early 2026, with full production starting later that year, under a contract valued in the mid-single-digit millions of euros.
Trailblazer provides drivers and commanders with day, thermal, and fusion vision, enhancing terrain navigation, obstacle avoidance, route selection, and threat detection in low-light, obscured, or adverse weather conditions.
It has seen adoption in seven countries, providing a consistent vehicle vision solution across different combat platforms.
Rheinmetall UK is responsible for delivering driver vision sensors, remote side and rear sensors, installation kits, hardened cabling, switches, and protective covers.
Trailblazer Uses
Rheinmetall UK has steadily positioned itself as a key provider of advanced vehicle vision and situational awareness technologies for the British Army.
The upgrade will mark the 17th military platform to receive Trailblazer.
Beyond the M270 A2 MLRS upgrade, the company has delivered it for the Challenger 3 main battle tank, enhancing crew effectiveness in low-light and adverse weather conditions.
The system is also installed on the Boxer Mechanised Infantry Vehicle and the Warrior infantry fighting vehicle, standardizing vision capabilities across multiple platforms.
