Boeing has secured an $877.7-million contract to deliver an undisclosed number of MH-47G helicopters for the US Special Operations Command.
Primary works for this order will be facilitated at the company’s center in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, with completion scheduled by November 2030.
The deal follows a $240-million award in March for five MH‑47G aircraft. Deliveries for that package are expected to start in 2027, bringing the total number of helicopters under the broader program to 51.
Boeing’s MH-47G serves as a heavy-lift rotorcraft for long-range missions, including troop insertion, extraction, and resupply in hostile environments.
Built on the CH-47 Chinook airframe, it features advanced avionics, in-flight refueling, improved navigation, and modular payloads for specialized equipment.
Airframe Specifications
The MH-47G is typically manned by five operators and can transport up to 30 personnel, or about 10,000 pounds (4,536 kilograms) of external and internal cargo.
It measures 90 feet (27 meters) in length and has a rotor diameter of 60 feet (18 meters).
For combat, the platform can be armed with 7.62-millimeter machine guns, laser warning systems, electronic countermeasures, and spectral flares.
The helicopter is powered by twin Honeywell T55-GA-714A engines for a top speed of 170 knots (196 miles/315 kilometers per hour), a range of 500 nautical miles (575 miles/926 kilometers), and an operational altitude of 20,000 feet (6,096 meters).
