Saab Acquires Swedish Materials Provider Deform

Swedish defense contractor Saab has taken full ownership of Deform AB, a forming specialist based in Degerfors, deepening a long-standing partnership and securing a critical part of its supply chain.

Deform has been a trusted supplier for Saab for many years, particularly providing “tough and demanding” components for production under Kockums, Saab’s naval shipbuilding segment in Malmö.

Founded in 1907 and taking the name Deform in 1987, the company specializes in hot and cold forming of various metals, with operations spanning four main areas: pressure vessels, protective solutions, heavy fabrication, and heavy equipment.

“We see it as a winning solution for both Kockums and Deform to secure the supply chain and jointly develop more businesses by making Deform part of the Saab family,” Saab Kockums Head Mats Wicksell stated.

According to Saab, Deform’s specialized skills and precision craftsmanship constitute an integral part of Saab’s defense contracting operations.

The group expects that the acquisition will ensure long-term stability for Deform and a reliable supply of critical components for Sweden’s defense industry.

“This means a continued strong and stable future for our people and our business, where we continue to deliver world-class advanced products to our customers,” Deform CEO Ulrika Jonsson stated.

“We will keep the name Deform and our operations will continue in Degerfors, just as before.”

The new subsidiary is currently assisting Saab Kockums in the development of Blekinge-class attack submarines for the Swedish Navy in the southeastern municipality of Karlskrona.

Deliveries of the fleet are expected by 2027.
