As the Lead Command Unit, 45 Cdo must be prepared to conduct Operations anywhere in the world. The Commandos were in the High North learning to be winter warriors conducting Arctic survival training in bitterly cold temperatures. The conditions are harsh around 200 miles inside the Arctic Circle, where the sun barely rises and temperatures plummet to below -30C. The Land Rover Wolf 4×4 is used as a light utility vehicle and has been adopted in a number of guises and body styles including fire engines, excavators, communication vehicle, ambulance, a lightweight model for air transport, snowplough, and six-wheel drive, amphibious and track-propelled versions.

The Challenger Armoured Repair and Recovery Vehicle (CRARRV) is a highly evolved armoured vehicle designed to recover and repair damaged tanks on the battlefield. The vehicle has two winches, main and auxiliary, and an Atlas hydraulically operated crane capable of lifting a complete Challenger 2 power pack. A modern, high-tech Army needs highly trained men and women to keep equipment working. The role of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) is to do just that; maintain, repair and manufacture equipment to keep battle winning aircraft, tanks and weapons in fighting order. The REME exists to Ôkeep the punch in the ArmyÕs fistÕ. Every part of the British Army has a REME detachment within it allowing opportunity around the world from Belize, to Canada, to Cyprus, to Kenya. REME has a set ofÊeight trades: Armourer, Recovery Mechanic, Avionics Technician, Electronics Technician, Metalsmith, Vehicle Mechanic, Aircraft Technician and Technical Support Specialist. From repairing Challenger tanks at the forefront of the battle to maintaining the Apache Attack Helicopter, REME keeps up to date with the latest in advanced technologies and complex equipment, constantly evolving our training programme to make the seemingly impossible possible.
