Australia Locks in Local Steel Deal for Navy’s Hunter Frigates

BAE Systems Australia and Melbourne-based BlueScope Steel have signed a five-year framework agreement to supply locally-made steel for the Royal Australian Navy’s Hunter-class frigate program.

Australian Navy Transports Army’s Heavy Combat Vehicles in Milestone Trial

One of the Royal Australian Navy’s largest warships has successfully transported the army’s heaviest combat vehicles in a recent trial, proving their sea transportability.

(Image provided by Austal) *** Local Caption *** Defence has accepted the ninth Evolved Cape Class Patrol Boat built at Henderson shipyard in Western Australia, ADV Cape Spencer. Built by Austal Ships Pty Ltd under project SEA1445 Phase 1, the Evolved Cape Class Patrol Boats contribute to the whole of Government effort to protect Australia's borders and offshore interests. ADV Cape Spencer will work alongside other Royal Australian Navy and Australian Border Force vessels enhancing the capability for civil maritime surveillance and enforcement in Australian waters.

Centred on a maritime task group, IPE21 involves HMA Ships Canberra and Anzac and approximately 700 people, including Australian Defence Force and civilian defence personnel, and sea riders from partner nations. Engagements have been modified in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and will be carried out primarily through contactless port visits, and will include a range of virtual workshops and at-sea activities.

Royal Australian Navy replenishment ship HMAS Stalwarts embarked MH-60R Seahawk helicopter Boomerang conducts flying operations during a transit as part of a regional presence deployment. *** Local Caption *** The Royal Australian Navy is undertaking a regional presence deployment in Southeast and Northeast Asia. During the deployment, HMA Ships Toowoomba, Stalwart and Brisbane demonstrated the Royal Australian Navys ability to execute sustained operations in the deployed environments through superior Replenishment at Sea capability. During this evolution, Stalwart completing her first dual Replenishment at Sea evolution providing HMA Ships Toowoomba and Brisbane with F76 fuel, and F44 fuel for the embarked MH-60R Helicopters. Concurrently, Stalwart launched her embarked MH-60R helicopter, Boomerang, to conduct a Vertical Replenishment of stores and mission-essential equipment to Toowoomba. Regional presence deployments demonstrate Australias commitment to, and engagement with, the region. The deployments play a vital role in Australias long-term security and prosperity by protecting Australias interests, preserving a rules-based order, enhancing cooperation and relationships with regional partners and allies, and developing capability and interoperability.
