Poland Accepts First M1A2 Abrams Tanks From US

The US has supplied the first tranche of M1A2 Abrams main battle tanks to Poland as part of a 2022 foreign military sale.

A line of Land Rover Wolf 4x4 Utility vehicles follow a Pinzgauer 6x6 All Terrain Truck on the Drawsko Pomorskie Training Area (DPTA) for Exercise Steadfast Defender 2024. Approximately 400-500 military vehicles and 1500 military personnel taking part in Ex STEADFAST DEFENDER line up on DPTA, Poland, for a Battle Group photo. 16,000 British soldiers are taking part in the largest set of NATO multi-national military manoeuvres in generation. Exercise Steadfast Defender will see these troops deploy across the entirety of Europe’s eastern flank, stretching from the far north of Norway, inside the Arctic Circle, all the way down to Georgia in the Caucasus’s. The British Army will be at the very forefront over the 5-month duration of Exercise Steadfast Defender, underpinning its position not only as the leading NATO European member state, but also one of its most potent. To put that into perspective; the Army is committing a 3* Headquarters, as well as two 2* Divisional and three 1* Combat Brigade Headquarters. These deployed formations will test, evaluate, and prove our ability to integrate and operate alongside our partners and allies, strengthening that collective and sustained commitment to European security. Along with those 16,000 troops, the UK will be sending massed armour including main battle tanks across to Europe aboard Ro-Ro vessels and loaded onto trains through the Channel Tunnel. Paratroopers will fly in from UK bases to seize strategic objectives and link up with NATO allied forces. Exercise Steadfast Defender will run from January through to May and comprise of 11 individual exercises in which British forces will participate alongside our NATO allies and partners.

Soldiers regularly conduct these practices to stay as well trained as they can. Australia has deployed an ADF Reconstruction Task Force (RTF), consisting of a combined arms team, to the Uruzgan Province in southern Afghanistan as part of Operation Slipper. The RTF is in partnership with the Netherlands Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) and forms part of the NATO- led International Security Assistance Force. The RTF has a clearly defined role to work on reconstruction, improvement of provincial infrastructure and community based projects. The RTF also provides trade training to the local population and military engineering training to the Afghan National Army. This type of assistance is designed to benefit the people of Uruzgan Province well into the future and form building blocks of a stable and prosperous community. The RTF contains around 370 ADF personnel from predominately Queensland-based units. It includes elements to provide command, security, engineering, and administrative support and is equipped with Bushmaster Infantry Mobility Vehicles (IMV), Australian Light Armoured Vehicles (ASLAVs) and armoured engineer plant equipment.
